Where do these come from?
From publisher feeds we check daily: Food Safety News, the trade press, and the nonprofit statehouse outlets in each state. FSIS blocks automated reads of its own recall feed, so we catch a recall the way the public does, when an outlet reprints the notice. Every FSIS notice carries the establishment number, and that number is what joins the story to the plant profile.
Is this the official recall list?
No. The official list is the FSIS recalls and public health alerts page. This page is coverage, linked to the outlet, with the plant identified from the registry. Use it to find the plant and the establishment number, then read the notice at FSIS.
How do I know which plant a recall names?
Look for EST. followed by a number in the notice, on the package, or in the story. Search that number in the box at the top of this site or on the FSIS directory. If we matched it, the story lists the plant below it with a link to the profile.
